Paper Form Structure

GITAM School of Architecture, Visakhapatnam hosted “Paper Form Structure,” a Paper Modelling Workshop on February 12th-13th, 2025, led by paper engineer and mathematician Mr. Arun Desai. The workshop offered students an immersive, hands-on experience in massing and surface development using paper as a medium for architectural design. Participants learned the mathematical principles behind creating solids, voids, skeletons, and structures like geodesic domes, hyperbolic paraboloids, bubble domes, and catenary arches.

Through the workshop, students gained valuable skills in creating conceptual models from abstraction and exploring techniques such as pleating for pillars, and designing collapsible and semi-collapsible forms. It was a unique opportunity for students to apply these techniques in real-world applications, equipping them with knowledge to carry forward into their higher semesters.

Check out some of the amazing works created during the workshop.
