Join us for a thought-provoking session on how India has been portrayed on screen through the lens of Western cinema. From the disturbing depiction of cults in Indiana Jones to the rags-to-riches triumph in Slumdog Millionaire, Western films have often reduced India to a set of stereotypes — exotic, chaotic, or mystical.
GSA’s Film and Literary Society (FALS) will delve into the misrepresentation of Indian culture, the grotesquerie of faith, the romanticization of landscape, and the broader implications of the Western gaze. How have these cinematic narratives shaped global perceptions of India? And most importantly — has the portrayal of India changed over the years? Lets find out. Join us on 11th July at KRC Auditorium, GITAM University, Visakhapatnam. This event is open to all at GITAM. Contact 08912840556 for attending.
